It’s been a hot one this summer, that’s for sure, and with July gone August will hopefully bring some cooler temperatures to bring some respite from the impending climate crisis we’re all going to have to deal with.
That being said things have been relatively slow once again this month with a slight trickle of new releases coming in the form of a cool new split LP between Nocturnal Prayer and English black metal project Abduction, along with long awaited debut singles from Ultimata and Adventure Team Assemble.
The lack of new music to report on has given us a bit of time to catch up on our album reviews, though, namely the debut record from Hag, Nocturnal Prayer’s Advance on Weakened Foes and Dark Era’s surprise sophomore album which came out back in December of 2019.
On a sadder note July saw the closure of Treble Lounge and, as such, the complete dissolution of The Deck as we once knew it. With Distortion closing its doors in 2019 and CBTG’s kicking the bucket back at the start of the pandemic, The Deck is now essentially dead. May she rest in peace.
While times are tough now, the scene will bounce back. It always has and it always will. Read on to find out about what stalwart efforts are being driven on the music front to keep things afloat in Newfoundland and Labrador.
