Hakapik, the two piece grindcore band with members split between Ottawa and Montreal (with one member originally from Labrador), released their first demo back in 2020. One of the tracks on that demo was “Don’t Make Me Laugh”, a grinding cover of a song by the fictional band Fruit Blood from the Adult Swim TV show Brad Neely’s Harg Nallin’ Sclopio Peepio. On December 21st, 2022 the band released a music video for the track, which features their own version of the song playing over the performance clip from the show.

Montreal and Ottawa-based grindcore duo Hakapik have released a brand new demo. Entitled Pig Skull, the demo was released on Bandcamp on October 24th, 2022 and features 11 tracks of ripping, sludgy grindcore.

Two heavy Montreal acts will be making their way to Newfoundland this October thanks to Justin Dean at Make It So Productions. Leather Up Your Ass, a four-piece cover band that serves as a tribute to the best of the best of 80’s metal, consisting of Nick Guerin (Dungeon Works Productions) on vocals, Lee “Whiskey” Hinchey (Doom ‘An Blue, ex-Mindrip, ex-Mutank) and Armen Apekian on guitars, Dano Apekian (Ashes of Eden, Ex Deo) on bass, and Jimmy “Bones” Antle (Doom ‘An Blue, Murtenscythe, Guttrot) on drums, will be making their way to the island as the headlining act.
Joining them will be Doom ‘An Blue, a two piece rock and roll / heavy metal band consisting of Hinchey and Antle on guitar and drums respectively with a rotating cast of mad-villains on bass and vocals for each song. The group performs a combination of original tunes as well as covers, featuring guest musicians such as Fez Khan (Crosstitution), Jesse James Dimitri (Doomed Caravan), and many more.
As an extra special treat, Leather Up Your Ass and Doom ‘An Blue will also be joined by Toronto, Ontario heavy metal band Black Absinthe. All three bands will be performing in Newfoundland for the very first time.
The first show will take place in St. John’s at The Rockhouse on Friday, October 21st, 2022 where they will be joined by local folk metal stalwarts Sons of an Eastern Moon. Doors open at 9:00 PM and the show starts at 10:00 PM.
The second show will take place in Holyrood at The Hat Lounge on Saturday, October 22nd, 2022 where St. John’s old school punks Uneeda will open up the night. Doors open at 7:00 PM and the show starts at 8:00 PM. Both shows require a $15 cover charge.
