St. John’s folk metal band Sons of an Eastern Moon have finally released their long awaited new EP Borealis. Following the release of their debut record L’Anse Aux Metals in 2019, this is our first offering of new Sons material in quite some time.
The EP features three tracks and runs just under 10 minutes in length. It features art designed by Airline Bourbon Design Studio and is the first release with Alex Wells behind the drum kit.

Californian traditional heavy metal outfit Night Demon will be returning to St. John’s this summer alongside Toronto speed thrashers Ammo for a night of searing metal at the Bella Vista Events Venue. Courtesy of Make It So Productions, the show will be taking place on Friday, August 25th, 2023, and both bands will be joined by local thrashers Vertebraeker and metal vikings Sons of an Eastern Moon.
Pre-sale tickets are available for $30 while cover at the door will be $40. Doors open at 6:00 PM and the show starts at 7:00 PM.

St. John’s blackened experimental hardcore group Precious Blood have been drumming up tons of hype on the island recently, and now it looks like that hype is about to pay off. The band is gearing up for the release of their debut EP, I No Longer Wish for Salvation, which will drop on Friday, June 16th, 2023.
In support of the EP’s release the band will be doing an EP release show at The Rockhouse on the same date where they will be joined by hardcore punks Of the Black, thrashing maniacs Vertebraeker, and melodeath stalwarts Grenadier. The show will be sponsored by Fogtown, Fogfest, Grind Mind, Vinland Skates, Trouble Bound Studio, the 7th Annual St. John’s Tattoo Convention and yours truly at Heavy NFLD.
