Pupfish Releases New EP ‘Heart of Maille’

Pupfish is a brand new medieval-themed dungeon synth project from Newfoundland and Labrador. While the identity of the person behind the project is unknown, they are indeed based somewhere in Newfoundland and have also designated themselves as a specifically anti-fascist project (via their Instagram), always a nice tidbit to be aware of in a genre that is often polluted by fascists.

The project has been around since at least November of 2020 with a cover version of “Carol of the Bells” that was released around that time. On March 30th, 2024 the project also released a single called “Fog Descends Upon the Monastery”, however both of these tracks went under our radar.

This latest offering from Pupfish, a three song EP entitled Heart of Maille, was released on April 5th, 2024 through Bandcamp and streaming services and was mastered by Bandlab Mastering.

Alter Releases New EP ‘Currents and Unknowns’

St. John’s alternative rock / hard rock / grunge band Alter have released a brand new EP. Entitled Currents and Unknowns, this EP contains four tracks and was initially released on May 20th, 2023 but was only recently uploaded to Bandcamp.

MiR Releases Self-Titled EP

St. John’s hardcore band MiR have released their debut recording. The new release is a self-titled EP that dropped on April 20th, 2024 and features seven tracks of ripping, metallic hardcore. The EP can be found on streaming services as well as Bandcamp.

Of the Black Releases New EP ‘A Structured Narrative’

St. John’s hardcore band Of the Black have released their first piece of new music since 2020. Their new EP, entitled A Structured Narrative, is the first since 2020’s series of five EPs numbered One through Five which dropped over the course of that year. This new EP features 6 tracks, was recorded at Paradise Sound Studio and was mixed by Bryan O’Reilly. It was released on April 16th, 2024.

Jaded Truth Release New EP ‘Sweet’

St. John’s grunge trio Jaded Truth are back with a brand new EP, entitled Sweet. Sweet follows the band’s last EP, Bitter, which was released in September of 2023. This new EP was released on April 12th, 2024 through Bandcamp and streaming services and features six tracks.

Liz Fagan Band Releases New EP ‘Leaning In / Se Pencher Vers’

St. John’s grunge / alternative rock group Liz Fagan Band have released their first full EP. This new release, entitled Leaning In / Se pencher vers, was released on March 22nd, 2024 through Bandcamp as well as streaming services, and features six tracks.

Liz Fagan Band consists of Liz Fagan on vocals and guitars, Chad Feehan on bass, James Benoit on drums, and Kendall Pittman on synths. The album photo and layout design was done by Krissy Breen, with the EP being mixed by James Benoit and mastered by Sarah Shin, along with band photos being provided by Tony Dawe. The songs “Fleurs fan​é​es” and “Azure” were co-authored by Caroline Fortune. Each song on the EP also features unique artwork which were created by Scotti, Emily Bishop, Darcy Sedgwick, Anatasia Tiller, and Shan Leigh Pomeroy.

Dogfish Releases New Self-Titled EP

St. John’s garage / slacker punk quintet Dogfish have released their second EP, Dogfish, following the release of their debut effort, Shirts Versus, which dropped in December 2023. The new EP was released on February 29th, 2024 and features four tracks.

Dogfish consists of members Owen Finn, Michael Shallow, Tyler Herritt, Michael Arnold, and Robert Piercey.

Sour Gut Releases New EP ‘Impaled’

St. John’s grindcore duo Sour Gut have released a new EP. This new drop from the band is their second since the beginning of 2024, following their initial demo which was released in March. The new EP, entitled Impaled, was released on April 5th, 2024 through Bandcamp and features Todd Samson on drums and Liam Hayman on vocals. Both members of the band wrote the guitar and bass parts though the band is currently seeking additional members to take over on those instruments.

Ratpiss Release New EP ‘Four Humors’

Montreal powerviolence / grindcore band Ratpiss has released their third EP, Four Humors. The new EP dropped on Friday, March 1st, 2024, and features four tracks with explicit titles. Four Humors features cover art designed by the band’s bassist and vocalist Erin Faeth, and was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Julien Levesque at JL.LV Audio.

Corscia Releases Debut EP ‘Waves’

Corsica is a brand new psychedelic / experimental rock project from multi-instrumentalist Brad Robertson. The project released their debut EP, Waves, through Bandcamp on March 1st, 2024, which was recorded as part of the 2024 RPM Challenge. The EP boasts five songs and a variety of different styles that explore the sounds found within the psychedelic rock genre.
